"Life's not fair."
Even if the last time we heard this was while it was being barked at us mid-childhood strop, chances are we've all thought it from time to time.
Yup, it can seem pretty cruel at times. Even the most steely minded amongst us must stop to wonder if this life lark is a constant uphill race when the shit hits the fan and everything seems against us.
But what if, despite all the evidence to the contrary, life is fair?
What if for every disadvantage we are laden with, we are also gifted with a counter balancing talent or skill? What if we all have the answers to all of our questions built into our bones, and it's just up to us to find them?
Five-year-old Iris Grace is autistic, which makes communication of her thoughts, feelings and frustrations incredibly difficult. Interacting with other people is a daily battle, but Grace has found a way all her own to express herself.
Colour, calm and ink.
Grace paints.
Beautifully gentle, softly seeping water colours that hold a staggering resemblance to the iconic creations of Monet. Incredible art in its own right, but also a window into the personality of a little girl who might not otherwise have a voice to tell her story.
So maybe life isn't about whether it's fair or not, maybe it's more complicated than that. Or much more simple. Maybe it's just about understanding that whatever is put in front of us, we have it in us to find a way through. And find the beauty in the journey. Like Iris.
